Privacy Policy

Last updated: 24 October 2026

VetOtter (“we”, “us”) is a pet health app for Android (package com.vetotter.app). This policy explains, in plain language, what information the app handles, where it lives, and the choices you have. If anything here is unclear, email us at support@vetotter.com.

The short version: VetOtter is local first. Your pets' records are stored in a database on your phone, not on our servers. There is no account to create, we never sell data, and the app contains no analytics trackers. The free version is supported by ads served by Google AdMob. VetOtter Plus removes all ads.

1. Information stored on your device

The following information is stored only on your device, in the app's private storage, and is never uploaded to us:

  • Pet profiles: names, species, breed, age, weight history, and photos you choose from your device using the system photo picker.
  • Health records: vaccinations, medications, reminders and their completion history, health notes, and any custom fields you add.
  • Training progress: lessons completed, streaks and levels.
  • App settings: language, units (kg or lb), theme and notification preferences.
  • Saved vets and cached vet results: clinics you save, plus nearby vet search results cached on the device for up to 30 days.

Because this data lives on your phone, we cannot see it, recover it for you, or lose it for you. Use the in-app backup and export feature to keep your own copy. Exports are files under your control.

2. No account

VetOtter has no accounts, no sign in, and no user profiles on any server. We do not collect your name, email address, or phone number through the app. (Your name may appear inside records only if you type it into a field yourself. It stays on your device like everything else.)

3. Optional AI features

Two optional features use an online AI service:

  • AI symptom checker: when you run an online check, the symptom text you typed and basic pet context (name, species, breed, age) are sent over an encrypted connection to our secure proxy, which forwards them to OpenAI for processing and returns the result.
  • AI pet portraits: when you generate a portrait, the pet's name, species and breed are sent the same way so the image can be generated.

This only happens when you actively use these features. We do not store your symptom text or prompts on our proxy. The proxy applies per device rate limits and a monthly budget cap, and uses a randomly generated, anonymous device token stored securely on your phone for that purpose. It is not linked to your identity. AI requests are never used for advertising. If you never use the AI features, nothing is sent anywhere. An offline symptom checker is built into the app and works entirely on your device.

OpenAI processes the request under its own policies. AI results are general information, not a veterinary diagnosis. See our Terms of Use.

4. Subscriptions and purchases

VetOtter Plus subscriptions are sold and processed by Google Play. Your payment details (such as card numbers) go to Google and never reach us. We use RevenueCat to verify and manage subscription status: RevenueCat receives your purchase information from Google Play (what was bought, when, and whether the subscription is active) together with an anonymous app generated identifier, so the app can unlock Plus features and restore purchases on your devices. We never receive or store your payment card details.

5. Location (Vet Finder only)

If you open the Vet Finder, the app asks for foreground (while in use) location permission. Your approximate location is used to query the OpenStreetMap Overpass API for nearby veterinary clinics, and the results are cached on your device for up to 30 days. Location is never accessed in the background, never used for advertising, and never shared with us. If you deny permission, you can still use saved vets and add a vet manually.

6. Notifications

Reminders are scheduled locally on your device by the app. No push notification service operated by us is involved, and no notification content leaves your phone.

7. What we do not do

  • We do not sell your data, to anyone, ever.
  • We do not share your pets' records with third parties for advertising. Those records stay on your phone and are never used to serve ads. The only advertising SDK in the app is Google AdMob, and the app ships with no analytics or tracking SDKs of our own.
  • We do not build advertising profiles or track you across apps or websites.

Advertising on the free version: the free version of VetOtter shows ads served by Google AdMob, which helps us keep the free version free. To serve and measure those ads, Google AdMob may process your device's Advertising ID and ad interaction data (such as which ads were shown and tapped) under Google's own policies. This advertising data never includes your pets' health records, which never leave your phone. If you subscribe to VetOtter Plus, all ads are switched off completely.

The only third party processors involved are those described above: OpenAI (only when you use AI features), Google Play and RevenueCat (only for subscriptions), OpenStreetMap and Overpass (only when you use Vet Finder), and Google AdMob (only for ads on the free version).

8. Children

VetOtter is a general audience pet care app and is not directed at children. Because the app has no accounts and collects no personal profiles, no data about children is knowingly collected by us.

9. Your control: access, export and deletion

Everything the app stores is visible and editable inside the app at any time. You can:

  • Export your records or a full backup file whenever you like. This is always free and never locked behind a subscription.
  • Delete a pet from its profile, which removes that pet's records, reminders and photos from the device.
  • Delete everything in the app (More, then Danger Zone, then Delete My Data), or simply uninstall the app, which removes all of its local data from your phone.

Step by step instructions are on our data deletion page. Purchase records held by Google Play and RevenueCat are governed by their own policies. You can ask us to request deletion of the subscription identifiers associated with your purchases by emailing support@vetotter.com.

10. Security

On device data is kept in the app's private storage, and the app is configured so Android cloud backup does not copy it out. The anonymous AI device token is stored in the device's secure storage. Traffic to our proxy and to third party services uses encrypted connections (HTTPS).

11. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will update this page and the “Last updated” date above, and, for significant changes, note it in the app's release notes. Your data practices will never be made worse retroactively for data already on your device: it stays on your device either way.
